![]() Gloomhaven whisks players off to a medieval dark fantasy universe, as they get to grips with a tactical RPG mixing card-based strategy and adventurous dungeon crawling. This is the first of many announcements of its kind to come.” “Games are truly a transmedia experience, and it’s amazing to have the opportunity to collaborate with the world’s best board game makers to bring their IP to consoles. its learning curve is rather steep, but if youre willing to be persistent enough, its incredibly rewarding and fun in the end.“Our partnership on Gloomhaven embodies the very reason we brought Asmodee into the Embracer family,” said Matthew Karch, Saber Interactive CEO and co-founder and Embracer board member. but in my opinion its difficulty is "just right" where it should be. What i wanted to point out : the game is not easy, especially compared to other games in that genre. and when you learn to read the monsters and remember their skillsets and initiatives, its becoming rather easy and predictable to be honest. Once you get used to using initiative correctly and in a smart manner, you should have a lot more fun and success. Once you realized that, the 2nd and probably one of the most important aspects of the game is the value "initiative". You have to realise that the game is rather a "puzzle" kind of game then a usual RPG where you can just jump in, play whatever cards you like, and still succeed in the end. we all had quite a tough time for the first couple of sessions - exhausting, burning cards to quickly and such. We started the boardgame as a group of 4, 2 of us beeing quite geeky on boardgames and RPGs in general. I can tell you, its not about the actual difficulty (i feel like i could play on "very hard" and still complete most dungeons on 1st try, since i can freely play burn cards on the end of every dungeon at the moment for XP and Loot) then its about "understanding and reading the game". have around 10-15h in the difital version, only playing on hard. since every scenario is a race against the timer of your shrinking decks.)īeen playing the bordgame first for like 1y. A Brute is an excellent character for a 2-character party with just about every partner possible, but if you only take defensive cards with every levelup, thinking you're building an excellent tank, you'll run into problems, because dedicated tanking isn't really a thing in Gloomhaven. Also: You need to kill stuff to be efficient. (For example: Combining the Scoundrel with a Mindthief or Spellweaver makes the game more difficult since none of the characters can safely absorb any amount of damage worth mentioning and the Scoundrel can't really fully utilize her abilities since the other character isn't designed to park next to a living enemy. normal discards is super important and, as others have said, until you get used to all that stuff and can properly evaluate how all of it works in relation to your overall progress in the mission based on your experience with all that's happening in the game: Don't expect to be able to beat it on hard.Īlso: With only two characters synergy is much more important and if you pick characters that don't complement each other well can easily cause the game to become much more difficult. On hard difficulty not being able to loot any coins (unless one accidentally drops on a field that you have to enter for the purpose of finishing the mission) and still finishing on your last cards isn't all that unusual. In the board game every single map is a difficult optimization puzzle to get the most out of your cards. Gloomhaven as a board game is designed to be really tight.
